Starting Diesel Power Plant In Winter

Starting Diesel Power Plant In Winter

  • 2020/12/10

In winter, during severe frosts, there may be problems with starting the diesel generator. There are several ways to solve this problem and facilitate winter start-up.

We assume that you have carefully read the Engine Operator's Manual, the genset is in good working order, the battery is charged, there is sufficient fuel in the fuel tank, the fuel valve is open, and air has been removed from the fuel system.

Firstly, the most common cause of starting problems for a diesel power plant is a fuel grade mismatch with the actual operating temperature of the power plant. So, often the fuel that was filled into the fuel tank of the power plant in the summer, no longer corresponds to the winter temperatures. Already at a mild frost of -10 ° C in summer diesel fuel, the process of paraffin crystals may begin to precipitate. This paraffin will clog filters and fuel lines and cause the power plant to malfunction. It should be borne in mind that even a temporary increase in ambient temperature after the formation of wax in the fuel will not lead to its re-dissolution. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully monitor the compliance of the grade of fuel for the power plant - summer, winter or arctic - with the seasonal conditions of its operation.

Secondly, this is the installation of a pre-heater.

Thirdly, it is the installation of diesel power plants in a special container that allows multiple movements and transportation by any type of transport.
